Still no quick way to access the camera...

I love the changes they have made so far, but my biggest issue has been no quick camera access. The swipe up in iOS 9 was useless if you forgot to use a finger not registered when you hit the home button.
In iOS 10, the lift to wake is slow (maybe it'll get faster by release). If not, it's still two actions to get the camera on.
I'm comparing this to my S7 where 'tap tap' home button and camera is on. So many times I've gone to take a quick shot of something happening and I've unlocked the phone, now scrolling to find camera icon, open camera...snap. TOO LATE.

Its one action and the raise to wake is instant on my phone. I lift the phone or pull it from my pocket and just slide to the right of the main screen and the camera is ready. Its faster than ever. I have not tried the S7 so I can't compare but if its faster then thats a good thing. This has to be one of the main sticking points for those that use their camera a lot for impromptu shots.

Even if you unlocked your phone unintentionally the camera can be accessed from control center pretty quickly.

I guess you can say it's not as quick as quickly tapping something twice, but it's still fairly quick nonetheless.

Yes, I do. However, that's still not a quick action, imo. To use that you either have to wait until raise to wake turns on the screen and swipe right or hit the power button and swipe right....which usually takes two swipes to get it all the way open if you have a plus phone.
Quick action to me is like how you get Apple pay to come up when you pick up the phone.

Not a problem here, the swipe up is fast enough and was a great "update" over what we had before, never missed a shot!

Don't want a double tap otherwise i would unintentionally trigger the camera million times a day and the battery would suffer.....if it ain't broke don't fix it.

When your phone is not at hand and available right away, even if you enable "raise to take photo" there is still a chance you miss something interesting. When phone is ready, either "slide up" or "slide right" is fast enough to fire up.
I personally think iOS 10 approach is better, given user has a much larger area to "swipe" rather than aiming at that tiny icon on lock screen and then swipe. Using control center to start is always slower than from lock screen I must say, especially when you are in an app.

This isn't a quick action. It's better than 9, yes. Getting Apple Pay to open from lock is quick action. Android quick action the camera would have been on as quickly as raise to wake lit my screen.

That took about 2 seconds if you miss out the first second of waiting and the failed swipe. That should be quick enough for most people.

Raise to wake is really fast on my 6s Plus and then swiping to get the camera is done within a fraction of a second...... if I miss a picture because it took me less than a second to get my camera up then I never had a chance to take it anyway.

No need to grab the edge to swipe. You can start in the center if its a better reach for you.

Interesting complaint. Maybe I've got things backwards, but I always saw "Raise to Wake" to be the elimination of a gesture.

The way I was seeing it is like step counting. The action of a foot-step doesn't count the act of raising a foot and putting it down as two separate actions. Raising the foot is required in order to put it down. The same goes for using your phone. In order to use the camera or reply to a text then "Raise your device" doesn't actually count and the "Swipe right for camera" or "ForceTouch to Reply" is actually step-one.

I'm looking at this from the perspective of someone that uses the camera for more than 'just a camera'. If I do not have my DSLR in hand and need to capture something quickly, my iPhone is my weapon. Before it got to the point where I didn't want my thumb registered because it unlocked so quickly and I never was able to access the 'quick launch'. Now it's certainly better. If you have Apple Pay enabled, tap your home button twice while your phone is off. See how quickly your credit card appears on the screen....that's how quickly Android cameras open. Swapping that action with Apple Pay would be ideal.

The double tapping of the home button on the S7 is just as fast as the raise and swipe for iOS 10.

Added to that, the home button has MANY actions associated with it already so why add even more?

1 press goes to home screen
2 presses activates multitasking
3 presses activates a 50% dim screen (if you're smart lol)
2 tap activates "reachability"

With those presses, they're tricky. Sometimes I'm on a lick and a prayer hoping that I pressed the darn button the required amount of times to achieve the task I expected.

Literally raising your phone (which you have to do anyway to use it), and swiping (less straining than a press) is the simplest solution for activating the camera.

Further more this is a beta, which means the final speed of the actions and such aren't calibrated 100%. So comparing camera initiation speeds of a beta to a final release product is slightly pointless.

Also...'Tap, Tap' is 2 actions. 'Raise & Swipe' is 2 actions. So.........?

So, IYO, this is just you saying that you would prefer iPhone use the same method as Samsung?
