hey all,

i've tried many times to restore my iphone 3g to factory settings to get my wifi back, but still no luck. i've tried a few times with the 3.1.2 version and setup as a new phone and i've even upgraded to 3.1.3 in hopes to get my wifi back regardless of jailbreaking again, still no luck. can anyone help with this problem? am i doing anything wrong?

It sounds like a hardware fault...had a similar case to you and luckily the iphone was still under warranty and received a replacement.

However, there are known methods ranging from placing the iphone on Airplane mode and then perform a network reset via Settings to putting the iphone in the freezer (think there is a video on you tube) !!!! But not sure if that will solve your problem since you have already performed a restore.

Did you read Geohot's blog?

It appears some users are having wifi issues. Try a "Reset Network Settings". If you are still having wifi issues, see here. They don't appear to be caused by my software.

Man, I hope that's not the case. I'm trying to recall if the wifi stopped working before the jailbreak. It's been a long time since. Is there a way to check the warranty online?

if you had the iphone for less than 12 months you should be receive a replacement without any bother...BUT make sure you do a full restore prior to taking the iphone back to the Genius bar to remove all trace of jailbreaking otherwise the warrenty will be null and void!!!

if you are out of the warrenty i think they charge you for a replacement...in scotland it cost £125 (roughly $200) but i have heard cases where if you stand your ground and make a fuss about their product being ****e...you may get lucky!!!

remember to do a full restore and set up the iphone a new (do not restore from backup!!) :)

IF you need to get a replacement, go AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Wait too long, and youll get a 3.1.3 device. Obviously you dont care, but its worth more if you decide to sell it.
