I have the 2018 12.9. Not sure if I want to order the 2021 12.9. I’m just a basic user and not really sure if it’s needed but I do want it. Lol life choices. Wow

No need to rush it IMHO. You can hold off until September and see if iPadOS 15 offers anything valuable and if your current iPad starts to feel sluggish for your tasks in some capacity. As of right now there isn't anything pressing about the 2021 iPad that would force me to jump off the fence if I were you.

Depending on what iPadOS brings you might even benefit from waiting until the 2022 iPad Pro if it doesn't offer anything valuable to your workflow and needs. 2021 is M1, but 2022 should be M2 or whatnot to really refine what's vision there is for the iPad.

So, my vote is upgrade whenever you have a tangible need that the new one will solve. Not sooner. :)

I have the 2018 iPad Pro and bought the 2021, and I plan to trade in my old iPad.

Yea, I don't rally need it but that upgraded screen was tempting and I bought it as a gift to myself. I say you just pull the trigger on the purchase, nothing wrong with wanting/buying products that you're interested in (assuming you could afford it), no need to feel guilty about it. Plus I figure if I find it's not that big of an upgrade I could always return it.

I went from the iPad 11 inch 2018 and ordered the iPad 12.9 2021. Was at 64gb and now upgraded to the 512gb.

I’m not a pro user but like to make sure it’s future proof. And will hopefully have this iPad for 3-4 years.

I got £550 for my iPad Pro 11 inch 64gb so feel I got most of the money back haha.

One thing I don't understand fully is how "Centerstage" works. Today I ran a Webex call with the iPad while typing on my MacBook. I was a bit off center, as usual, due to the position of the camera. I still don't fully understand if Centerstage corrects that. If it does it is worth an upgrade for my use case IMO.,

What I think it does is has a wider angle camera and crops in the video and when you move around the digital crop just moves with you.

Agreed.

I had a coworker who pinched and saved and died with $3 million worth in stocks and a couple more in Treasuries. His estate went to estranged relatives who probably weren't even aware he existed.

Personally, I'd prefer to happily enjoy the fruits of my labor myself.

I ordered the 11-inch 512gb (coming from 9.7-inch 6th generation) yesterday, but today I canceled that order and went with the 12.9-inch, 1TB. I do drone video editing with LumaFusion and figured the extra screen real estate and RAM could come in handy, either now or down the road. I’m sure it’ll feel huge at first but that I’ll get used to it pretty quickly.

At the end of the day... can you afford it. Some are advising you to save your money while others are saying go for it and if it doesn't live up to your expectations. Well, return it. But I'll like to ask... why do you want it? Is it simply for it being a new shiny toy or there's particular features your interested in.

That's dope. But yeah.. that adjustment period is going to take awhile and getting accustomed to carrying it around.

Don't think it will be that much of an upgrade from 2018 iPad Pro, especially since you say that you are a basic user. You get a better screen if you upgrade.
