Still running 1.0.2 - Help needed!

Hi guys,
I just wanted to see if anyone could point me in the right direction on this.

I have an unlocked iphone that I got in the US last August. I had a friend of mine unlock it so I could use it in the UK on O2. He managed to unlock the phone on the first day the hack was released (ie: this was back in August long before the nice looking GUI tools came along for jailbreaking and unlocking the iphone) and he spent about two hours ‘flashing’ and recoding and whatever the **** he did (I don’t know as im not that technically-mided unfortunately!).
As a result I’m still running on 1.0.2 firmware. I want to upgrade to 1.1.4 but have heard a few horror stories of people doing this from 1.0.2 and ending up with a totally useless (albeit it very pretty) paperweight!

I have the installer.app on my iphone at the moment so am I right in thinking that I need to:

1) ‘Virginize’ the phone back to factory settings (something to do with the baseband?!). How do I do this?

2) Plug the phone into my laptop and upgrade the firmware from 1.0.2 to 1.1.4 via itunes as I would with a legitimate iphone.

3) Jailbreak the phone again using iBrickr (can I use this on a windows machine or does it have to be done on a mac? Reason I asked is that when my friend originally hacked the phone he had to do certain parts of it on his mac).

4) Re-install the installer.app and run something like AnySim 1.2.1 to unlock the phone again and stick my O2 sim card in.

I think I’m along the right lines I just want to make sure so I don’t end up locking my iphone up for good!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just download ZiPhone (thats what i used) and follow the steps!

Now there is no need to virginize.

Simply RESTORE your current phone to 1.1.4 using iTunes.

Then use the ZiPhone tool for Mac or Windows. You can leave your non-official Sim Card in there the whole time.

Thanks guys, used Ziphone and it worked a treat. Its amazing how much easier it is now than it was back when we hacked 1.0.2!

When 1.1.4 came out, I just had to upgrade my 1.0.2 iPhone to it!
Using ZiPhone 2.5c it was too simple for words...

I did virginize it, but even that was so easy.

Hundreds of people have used Ziphone with no problems, as a quick look around these forums will testify. Using a method that has worked for plenty of other people hardly makes you a fool does it, its just personal preference for which one you go for...

I know so many people have used ZiPhone to "do it all" (Jailbreak, Unlock), and none have had any problems whatsoever... on firmware 1.1.3 and 1.1.4, either 4.6 bootloaders or 3.9 bootloader.

Pwnage is very new. So, now you have an excellent option extra.
Still, older hacked iPhones done with the "ugly Unlock.app" method, which have been virginized later before restoring to firmware 1.1.4 and then unlocked using ZiPhone 2.5c or later have a 100% clean record in my experience.

This morning someone needed a quick unlock of a brand new OTB 1.1.4 16 GB iPhone, and as I only had ZiPhone 3.0 on my MBP, I decided to help him straight away with that.
No problems.

I have heard of people running into trouble (Wifi and YouTube), so I don't want to say that no problems ever exist, but saying ZiPhone is hazardous is exaggerated IMHO.

It doesn't matter if lots of people have had no problems.

There are safer methods to unlock.

In some cases ZiPhone has caused a "device calibration error" which is NOT FIXABLE! the only way is a new phone... not to mention wi-fi breaking issues - just look at hackint0sh for proof of that.

iLiberty+ is far safer than ZiPhone and uses the same process and has ZERO record of damaging phones like Pwnage.

Really its simple... you spent hundreds of your own money on a phone - do you want to risk it on something which has caused serious problems or using something that is safe?

If you wanna risk breaking your phone uneccessarily thats your call - but I don't think its a risk worth taking when there are other SAFER alternatives!

it's not true ziphone is a very effective tool when i used iliberty it screwed up my whole phone but after doing a restore and used ziphone everything worked just perfectly and as for pwnage it is available only for mac users for now so how do we that run on windows pc do it
