iPod Still worth buying iPod classic new?

I bought a used 120 via Amazon, it appears to have bad sectors. Seeking a return. I wish I paid Apple for a new one.

...Or I could drop another $150 to future proof on an iTouch. But with less capacity. I have ~60GB music, it could just barely fit in a 64GB iPod touch. Better cable too.

This is mainly for car usage. Sucks because I could use a flash drive only, but Subaru reads the directories in a very antiquated way.

And sucks because the faulty one has my music on it, but poorly organized (kicking myself for not getting it all organized before I transferred). I could debatablly live with it while I wait for a 128GB iTouch.

Anyways, still a good purchase to buy the Classic? Is this bad sector thing going to afflict me with time?

Update: It may be working now. I messed with disk utility (still got some errors and warnings) and restored through itunes way too many times. It appears that I might have a chance at "one big score" -- writing a final directory of media once and done.

So I'm editing/merging wife and my libraries now, will test out if I can still write, then copy the whole kit and kaboodle and pray for a miracle. Who knows what will happen when we we want to add some new music in a month.

To get this to work well in my Subaru and not be endlessly scrolling alphabetic lists, you don't want to know the workarounds I am futzing with. Composers are now genres, genres are now first letter of Artist names. This took ages when writing directly to the classic.

If it doesn't work I'll have to bite the bullet and probably get the iTouch. As cool as the classic is, I don't want to have to deal with this again. 64 GB is sufficient space, and the device is much more useful (AirPlay).

C'mon apple, 128GB iTouch, stat!

iPOD Classic is worth paying if you have large library for music and need to carry around.

I use my iPOD classic 160 GB late 2009 or 7th Gen iPOD classic.

Update 2: Returned it, testing out my 32GB iTouch for this purpose (with heavily edited library) and may upgrade to a 64GB after I see if there are any new products at WWDC.

iPod Classic still has it's good points

I listen while commuting and walking a lot. I recently switched from a classic to an iPod touch and I find I miss being able to control playback without having to look at the iPod. I wear Shure earbuds that don't have a controller built into the cable and am not interested in putting one inline. I tried a bluetooth remote but that was very flaky and poorly built. So I am considering going back to a classic while I can still get a new one.

There is much to be said about a good tactile interface.

It is nice being able to carry all of my music around but this is the reason I have to have a classic. I use it while riding my motorcycle and I have to be able to hit the buttons while the iPod is in my pocket.
