Stock 15'' C2D Getting REALLY hot!

Hello,

Have had this C2D for a little over a month. Recently, I've been using it as a portable on my lap and it is getting REALLY REALLY hot. The back ports in the back are not blocked, but the fan is running. How many fans are there? is there a way to tell if they are working? I put my hand behind the vent and I cant feel any air coming out.

Ideas?

There are two fans. Download smcFanControl and adjust the fan rpms.

If you can't get the fans to spin up, then there's definitely a fault. Mine don't spin that often (1.83 CD MBP).

If there is a fault, take it back to Apple and ask for a replacement (depending on how new it is)...

I would say - download MainMenu from macupdate, run that program, restart. See how things go, you can always manage your heat/CPU usage with CoreDuoTemp app. If you use your MBP on your lap a lot - i heard good things about iLap. I just picked up a Targus Mobile X stand at Target for my macbook on the desk and temperature wise it is running cooler.

I'd say MainMenu + a restart should get it running normal again. But then again, it is a C2D so it ain't gonna be cold as ice.

Normal internal temps can easily be 78-79degC internal and external near the battery around 43degC (and above part of the keyboard).

You should hear the twin fans from time to time ramping up to cool things down.

I use 'Fan Control' on my MB and set the fans to run a bit faster to keep things cooler (2500rpm-2700rpm).

Try it just to see what's going on inside - it does have uninstall instructions on the web page. (Access program once installed via 'System Preferences')!
