I am saying Apple not be able to break their previous 8 year record of zero declines.
Whether or not sales are affected does not matter. What matters to me is planned obsolescence was proven. Battery gate is unlikely to affect sale since because mostly everyone upgrades yearly. What's going to be affected is the OS adoption rate. I expect ios 12 adoption to be below ios 11. I bought iPhone X but it stays on iOS 11. My iPad Pro is a new device but stays on iOS 10. Iphone x Plus stays on iOS 12.
Nobody really cares about apple have "a decline", except the internet and even then only certain posters on the internet.
I'm glad you believe in "planned obsolescence" has been proven. Proofs don't work that way, but if you are happy with your new-found knowledge, I don't want to burst any bubbles.
The ios 12 adoption rate won't be affected. Comes sept 2018 there will be the same conversations on MacRumors. I expect a 60-70 percent adoption rate of ios 12 a few months after release. You may not upgrade, but by two 5s, and whatever else I have at that time will be on ios 12.
