Hey guys. My iPhone got stolen right out of my hands getting off of a subway and I have a few questions.

1. Can I track it somehow?
2. If he takes my SIM card out. Can he put in his and it will work fine? Or is there a way I can make it so he cant use my phone?

--Thankss

If you have MobileMe and if you configured "Find My iPhone" you might be able to track it, if it wasn't turned off.

I'd say call AT&T to block the phone.

2, I think he can, but he might need to re-activate it. Calling AT&T to block it will prevent this, unless he jailbreaks it or something.

You should take a bit more care with your iPhone.

Do you still have the box for the iPhone? If so just phone up AT&T, explain what happened and give them the IMEI number. AT&T will blacklist the phones IMEI number which will prevent it getting a signal. AT&T may even have a record of your iPhones IMEI number.

What a pointless, insensitive comment.

Sorry, but AT&T does nothing of the sort.

So true... They want the individual that "finds" or steals phones to sign up for service. They know you'll have to buy some type of phone to satisfy your contract anyways. It's not in AT&T's interest to block the missing phone.

Know what else sucks? The police are still treating cell phone thefts as if we're all walking around with clamshell Nokias from 2006. Reporting an iPhone stolen gets you nothing.

You'd think with stealing anything over $500 counting as a felony law enforcement would put a little more back into trying to recover these things.

So it was just snatched out of your hands and then the culprit ran off? Did you contact the subway security, to see if you could get a look at the CCTV ? Did you file a police report ? Have you changed all of your online passwords?

Wipe the data clean if you have MobileME!!!

Are you serious? That's poor. Do US networks have no way of stopping stolen/lost phones functioning?

In the UK you can give your network the phones IMEI number (if they don't have a record for it) and they'll put the IMEI number on a national database which will prevent the phone picking up a signal on any network (in the uk....)
