Stop Already Read Messages Notifications When Unlocking

I own a new wifi iPad mini 5 and would like to figure out how to disable the notifications I get every time I unlock my iPad about messages I already read and responded to on my iPhone. Is there a way to ensure messages are synced properly so that I don’t get flooded with outdated notifications every time I open my iPad? Thanks.
