Every time a new Note comes out, people like to rush and make their comparisons to other flagships. But in the case of the Note line, I've been saying for a while, there's nothing that compares to it. There is simply no phone on the market that can be called a powerhouse or work horse like the Note line can. Finally, someone on a tech site had the balls to make this very point. Enjoy.

What we really need to do (at least imho) is stop comparing everything to iPhones as if they are the standard for which all other phones are sat. And yes, I'm annoyed that Android handset manufacturers have gone as low as blatant copying the design language of iPhone x

Really poor taste in my opinion.

Yes and no. The Note isn't quite like other phones, but it still offers the same features as other high end Android devices, using the same internals. It's fair to compare it to other smartphones from that standpoint. The only major differentiator is the s-pen.

YES. I don't quite understand why top shelf Android devices should be compared to iPhones. The two platforms offer most of the same stuff, they just arrive at it differently. And it's not like people just bounce between the two, by and large. Someone wedded to the Apple ecosystem isn't going to consider an Android phone.

It's a catch 22 really. The iphone in terms of flagship/premium smartphones, is typically the #1 seller, so the other OEMs do it to themselves, mentioning Apple/iphones in their marketing.

It's a battle within Android in itself, between all the various OEMs. Because of ios and the Apple ''ecosystem'' offering a rather unique overall experience, it'd be prudent for the major Android OEMs to probably differentiate even more between themselves. The Note 9 is a good example of being somewhat different. Development of Tizen could allow Samsung to one day offer a "ecosystem'' experience without needing Google.

The note used to be a one of a kind phone. Ever since the Note 7 or Note 8, it’s basically been a galaxy s plus with a pen and a few other upgrades. People hate to hear that, but the note 9 is more similar to the s9+ than it is a stand-alone. People who don’t plan to use the s pen would be wise to save some money and get the s9+ in many instances.

Only when Samsung stops comparing other flagships with their Note phones.

Samsung should not even acknowledge Apple in their marketing including those commercials. I don't think it's doing them any favors, and the iphone doesn't look like it's slowing down either.

THAT, I agree with. I also miss the flat screen!

Sucks that the Note 9 is the only mainstream device with flagship specs and a stylus. The LG Stylo 4 is meant for those on a budget.

If the LG V30 had a stylus option, I’d never look at Sammy. I have lost my respect for the company ( esp after owning the Gear S3 LTE and other issues related to my their TVs/Customer Service ) but that’s a whole new topic..

But yea, since I use the damn S-Pen so much...sigh..

My issue is in daily use, I don't seem to have things to use the S-Pen.
Probably more a matter of learn all the things it can do.

Alas, I digress...

I’m considering a v30. What did you like about it besides the quad dac?

Samsung customer service is one of the worst things I have seen in consumer electronics. Luckily, they introduced the 3rd party warranty repair with UBreakIFix to alleviate some issues. However, people are used to just getting replacement devices from Apple or Google. I haven't had issues with Samsung TVs. Own a 10 year old plasma that is still kicking and performing well.

If you want a stylus device w/ flagship capabilities, rumors are the next iPhones could include Apple Pen support. Though conflicting rumors say otherwise against it. Time will tell.

V30 has band 71 LTE, which is good. Camera isn't bad either. P-OLED is better than LCD too. No notch is good as well lol. Might as well make that a feature on phones.

Besides the quad DAC ( which was the foremost reason! ):

The RF is excellent (TMobile )
The overall size of the device, esp with the 6” screen
The non-curved screen
Finger print sensor placement

I am seeing new ones pop up on swappa for $360 and up. I have a mint v20 that I use solely as a media player, but I want the V30 for the same purpose. Did you ever own a v20 and can compare the dac?

I had the V10 and V20.. the V30 DAC is similar V20 for SQ.. The V10, imo, was better (soundstage)

But, as an overall package, the V30 is worth the upgrade!

The UK advert of the Galaxy Note 9 compares itself indirectly to the iPhone so I don’t see why it can’t be fairly compared by reviewers or consumers?

It’s a great phone and if anything I think the only real fair comparisons are between phones of a similar size.

Agreed. The only thing worth comparing a Note to is another Note. If you are not going to use the SPen, then rather get a S+.

I also get sick of seeing the Galaxy Note being compared to devices that I see as lesser (anything not a Note basically).

My Note8 is now a year old and the ONLY device I see worth replacing it is the Note9, everything else is inferior as there is nothing else that will be as capable as the Note8 other than the Note9.

That’s why comparisons and debate over any phone on the market exists.

Your ‘superior’ is someone else’s ‘inferior’ and if one phone stood out as the best, everybody would own it no questions.

I think he is referring to the fact the Note has an S-Pen, so any phone that does not have a stylus is inferior as it cant do what the Note can. There is currently no phone out that is as productive as the Note 9.

Nah, this ain't up for debate. Everything is inferior to the Note. Whether the Note is for you, is up to you, nobody can debate you on that. As for superior and inferior, lol, we're not getting into "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" type argument. But nice try though.

The S-Pen is a really cool feature I agree and right now I suppose it’s stand alone in that regard. My point was more consumer based appeal and with that it has plenty of competition. The Note 9 is stunning phone though, albeit a bit expensive IMO.

For that to be the case a phone needs to excel in all areas and be better than anything else on the market with wider appeal. The Note like every phone has its trade offs so it is up for debate. You might not agree because of your bias but beyond that among reasonable contributors it’s an interesting topic to debate.

I agree with you 100 percent but like i said i think you misinterpreted the original post. We are not talking about which is the "best" phone, we are talking about the fact the Note is in a class of its own and no other phone can touch it in terms of productivity. If productivity is not a priority there are probably better choices out there no doubt.
