Is there any software that can stop the ibook from sleeping when the lid is closed? Thanks

Running the ibook in clamshell mode (computer on with display closed) can be achieved with http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html a screen spanning hack which also can enable clamshell mode. I dont think there is a way to just have the ibook not sleep when you close it though, because this hack requires the ibook to be waken by a usb device and also be plugged in.

Why would you want to do this? It is made to not be able to run that way because heat would be being created bc the iBook is on and it dissipates right up to the screen.

Who told you that? The heat produced by the ibook is dissipated through the back of the computer. I've even emailed apple asking this, they said that heat from the ibook is dissipated though the back vents. If it was designed that way it would be mighty inefficient due to the gaps between the EMI shield and the heat-sink and the shield and the keyboard.
And if worse comes to worse the fan will turn on, and I hardly believe that the heat that is "dissipated through the KB" will be hot enough to damage a LCD. To be precautionary though just crack the lcd open a little though.

Back to the original post ive found a program that might help you. Havent tested it out though, Google is your friend.

Edit:: If you do

When my iBook is on, if I put my hand over/on the keyboard, there is clearly heat coming out from underneath. Try it on yours. And no, mine is not hot, it stays under 110 degrees F. But yes heat does come out the back, and also through the bottom case. So there are 3 ways heat is dissipated, not just through the back.
