At the moment when I'm watching a fullscreen video (e.g. in Safari), when I get a phone call it won't just pop the notification up in the corner, but it'll also throw me out of the video and back to the desktop, with "click to exit full screen" in the Safari window, and the video still playing in the background. I then need to click Safari to switch the video back to windowed mode so that I can pause it, and can finally then answer the call.

How can I stop this from happening? I just want the call notification, with the video unaffected so that I can pause it as normal. In short, how do I stop a call notification from throwing me out of my active video?

Has anyone been able to figure this out? I just got booted out of a fullscreen game because someone rang me. It's so annoying...

By default, iOS 14 displays an incoming call as a banner at the top instead of taking over the entire screen. To accept the call, tap the green button. Conversely, tap the red button to decline the call.

Follow these steps to choose which interface your iPhone or iPad will use for calls by default:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 14 or iPad with iPadOS 14+.
  2. Choose “Phone” or “FaceTime” from the root list.
  3. Tap “Incoming Calls”
  4. Now choose your desired interface from these options:
  • Banner: Use the compact interface for cellular, FaceTime and compatible VoIP calls.
  • Fullscreen: Switch to the old fullscreen interface for all calls.
“Phone, FaceTime and other apps you use to receive calls will use the selected display style,” according to Apple’s description of the feature provided by the Settings app.

incoming calls on the Lock screen are always displayed in the fullscreen interface.

Unfortunately it seems that you didn't notice that this is the MacOS 11 forum. There isn't a 1:1 mapping of those iOS settings through to MacOS.

This happens to me too and it's a PITA. I get a blurred screen and it pauses what I'm watching. I just checked my settings and had alerts set to "none". I wonder if I did that recently because I was getting annoyed with interruptions. I was wondering why calls weren't showing on my computer recently! haha. I forgot I did it. I've now put it to "banner" and will see if that changes things.
