stop the "Software Update" notification

I would like to prevent iMac from bugging me with notifications concerning software update.

Not that this is useless; its just that I use the iMac for work and cannot continuously do updates... I actually have to work. So I do updates, typically on the friday evening.

I've checked around; however, there is nothing in SystemPreferences/Notifications, nor is there a Preferences for Software Update.

And almighty google fails here.

Anyone found/know how to do this ?

App Store Preferences are located in among System Preferences, rather than in the App store App. You can turn off Auto-check there.

Apparently it proved too costly for Apple to put a Preferences item under About App Store in the App Store Menu as is done in every other application ever. So they had to hide the Apps prefs off in another part of the OS, like Microsoft does.

I'm not looking to stop the check (and download) that osx does out-of-office hours, i'm looking to stop the notification to the user of pending updates.

This is a real pain, the only notification that does not have "Cancel" is the software update.

Either "later" with guaranteed re-nag, or you have to start APPStore app and then quit it.

This nag is worst then my step-mother ! sorry.. ;-)

I don't think Apple has corporate use in mind for most of the new stuff. I think your only absolute way is to disable automatic checking and run it when you want.

I guess you are right...

And I'm dearly starting to miss the Apple that used to think things thru. Actually, I'm quite annoyed when I hear "look at those marvelous graphics" during keynote and then this type of silliness happens - but that is another forum I suppose.
