I am downloading lots of videos and after they download they auto open in QuickTime. How can I change the setting so the videos do not open in QT after being downloaded?

Thanks.

Where are you downloading them from?
Normally a file would be in your downloads folder, and you would double click or right click to select different app to run it.
I have never come across this!

If you're using Safari to download media, in Preferences, under the Websites tab, on the left there's an "Auto-Play" option and you can set auto-play options. Other browsers probably have a similar feature.

I'm actually downloading youtube videos for offline viewing and they do go to the download folder. The problem is some take a while and then I start typing an email or something else and they pop up and take over my screen and stop me from my current task. I see a Safari preference for "Open Safe Files after Downloading" The auto play option seems for auto playing videos when going to the website? I will do a quick test and report back. Thanks.
