Hi all,

My wife is experiencing an issue with her Google Account and Photos storage.

Google notified her that she has reached her storage limit (she is on the free plan) and that if she doesn’t upgrade her account will be cancelled including her email.

She tried to upgrade but Google told her she didn’t have permission and that the cardholder (me) needed to authorize.

She has had Google Photos for more than a decade (longer than I’ve known her). I setup family sharing a few years ago between myself and her so I’m assuming this is where the issue lies? Because I’m the owner of the family, she can’t do anything even though her Google account is separate and precedes that?

Anyway, regardless, I’ve looked through all of my settings and can’t find any way to either authorise or upgrade her Google account.

I downloaded Google Photos myself (haven’t used it since about 2014) but I couldn’t see anything there either.

Any ideas?

She doesn’t want to delete her Google Photos history and when I explained that we have a 2TB iCloud account, she explained that it won’t work either as she does not want the photos stored on her iPhone - she wanted to keep them separate (legacy photos going back to 2008).

Upgrading her Google Photos storage seems like the best route but I just don’t know how to do it.

I mentioned about buying an external hard drive, saving everything there and then deleting the storage from her Google Account.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers!

Are both of you using iPhones?

In the meantime, external storage is a good idea. You can also create new Google account on the same device and keep using free tier.
