Storage mystery (messages) on iOS 10, help needed :)

I'm having a strange issue on my 6s, running iOS 10.3.2. In the storage pane of Settings, Messages is shown to be taking up around 700MB of space. That is impossible, however, because I have deleted all attachments from almost every conversation, and with the few remaining attachments left, it should only be around 10MB or so.

I have restarted my iPhone and double-checked every conversation. Any other suggestions?

by deleting attachments, you mean ALL attachments, right? not just images and videos? (there are two tabs in the message details view -- "Images" and "Attachments")

Have you been backing up and restoring your backup since iOS 6 or 7 by chance?

Yep. Double checked both tabs.

Nope. I believe this backup cycle began with iOS 9, as I did a fresh install on my new 6s at the time (Sept. 2015), so only been since iOS 9. Not including iOS 8 or older.

Ahh okay. Then I don't have an answer. There was a bug in iOS 6/7 where deleting messages didn't delete the attachments and caused exactly what you are seeing.

You could try turning on delete after 30 days in message settings. That may force it to clear in 30 days from now.

Thanks. Another oddity I experience is that when I delete photos/attachments, especially a large number of them, they all empty under the tab, but when I go back to the details window (to double check), 1-2 photos reappear.

Does anyone else experience this? Is it possible something became borked with my install?

Also, are there any apps that can show all files on my iPhone's SSD (similar to what Grand Perspective for Mac does)? I may be able to track it down that way.

Maybe it just wasn't done deleting? I have that issues with emails. If I mass delete 100+ emails, it deletes them slowly so if I check back before its finished the last ones are still deleting.
