NO STORAGE! Help, I have done all the basic steps to get rid of excess storage (I am a part time photographer dealing with LARGE files), unfortunately everything I am deleting is going into my back up folder. I read online that deleting a back up folder is NOT wise. Has anyone ever done this and lived to tell the tale? It is taking up 84 GB of storage and somewhere on my hard drive are another 60 GB of photos. I have emptied my trash, cleared out iPhotos and checked the Finder for extra images. I am lost.

As a part time photographer, do yourself a favour and go buy a 512GB or 1TB external drive, and work from that ($50?). Do not start messing around with internal storage when you're that close to the edge incase you delete or mess with something you really shouldn't be.

I don't know specifically where these things are going to be located on your computer. You could look at whatever cloud storage options you have. I doubt there's going to be 100GB of hidden files though. So my guess is you've completely ran out of storage space and it's struggling to swap and all sorts.

Buy an external, copy important stuff/do your work. Then find time to have a proper sit down and work through your computers HDD.

Thank you for your response! I currently use a 6TB for external storage but it has not been my practice to work off of it. I use it as a back up for all my files but I may have to try this for this project. Cheers.

Just get your current job out of the way before you start messing with storage stuff if you're not 100% sure. As it's very hard to explain to a client that you 'lost' their masters!

My method is to send the files to an external drive when I finished the editing. After that,I usually remove the ones I don't need from my computer and my cloud storage. If you want your files to be remotely access, buy a NAS.
