I'm using a 32GB original SE, was always low on space (I store all photos and notes on device intentionally and I had HUNDREDS of Safari tabs before losing them in update). So I was using iOS 11.3 until this week I finally deleted enough to get my storage usage to under 27GB. Downloaded the 14.4.1 update 3 times, but it never verified to install, so finally I updated through iTunes. I definitely deleted the download before doing that, checked and my storage was something like 26.6 GB. After updating yesterday, it was nearly 31GB. It's been about 32 hours, multiple reboots, it's now at 30GB.

It seems the "other" section in storage is almost the same size as the system software, but I don't remember how big it was before. Is the size problem related to it being an older phone, or the huge jump in version update, a possible cache from downloading the OTA update multiple times, or somehow related to doing it via iTunes?

Basically just wondering if this size bump is normal and will it slowly go down over time?

The other storage bug had been around for a while, should go down by itself hopefully.

Thanks for the reassurance! It does seem to be slowwwwly decreasing even as I add a few more photos. Now at 29.3GB haha.

Unfortunately, size increased gradually instead (now at 31.6GB), the "other" block actually now looks larger than "system". I updated to iOS 14.4.2 as it said it was for security, oddly all the hundreds of Safari tabs I'd lost updating to 14.4.1 came BACK, but still Safari is only 171MB so it's nothing crazy. I used to check my storage constantly because it was always low, and nothing is extraordinary--photos, messages, instagram, mail etc is all basically the same size as they were when I'd finally created enough space to download the 14.4.1 update in the first place. Plus I can see the "other" block is huge.

Is there really nothing to do about this "other" storage except wait and hope it eventually goes down? Thank you!

After checking my storage, System shows 7.8 gb & Other shows 8+ gb. By tapping the Other it shows 8+ gb then going back Other shows 4.8 gb. Doing this twice brings the Other down to 4.61gb and stabilizes. Pretty sure you have checked it this way.
