what are the chances of an apple store having ipad's in stock for people who didnt reorder?

I don't think anyone outside an Apple Store Employee is going to be able to giving anymore than a guess.

My guess is that walk-ins may be able to get one if they get there early enough, but it will also depend on the store (location/populace).

Well I plan on getting there early. Right now I have a 16GB on pre-order but the more I've thought about it, I've decided to get a 32GB. I'm hoping I change my pre-order when I get to the store. If not, I may wait until I can get a 32GB.

Why wait? You can edit your reservation. If you wait until you get to the store it's going to be as-if you had no reservation at all. Just sayin.

As for availability on launch day, I'm sure there will be at least enough where if you got in line by an hour before store opening you'd get one. I'd also expect store employees to either do head counts of people in line to ensure no one in waiting in line for no reason or to announce how many units by model are available.

:apple: doesnt do head counts.

For what its worth, customer service suggested that even a reservation was no guarantee. He advised pre ordering.

No one can say for sure. Why risk it? Have it delivered. You can even presign for the shipment if you don't want to wait around for the package. That is unless you want to wait to try it out before buying, which would be tough to do on release day.

reservation..

Just do a reservation. If you change your mind later, the reservations expire on apr 3 in the afternoon.

Also, since they do expire, my guess is there will be some extras available due to people who didn't follow-through.

All that said, the reservation isn't a guarantee... as has been stated earlier.

Probably depends on location, the New York store for example will have enough for the entire city.
