Hello,

I recently imported all my photos from OneDrive into iCloud via the Photo App on my MAC.

My problem is, that all photos are saved in original size and quality on the HDD of the MAC (ca. 100 GB).

Is there any like option to make some space on my Mac and tell it to only load like thumbnails or so?
I can't find any option like that...

Thank you in advance.

Of course it does (in the settings of Photos), but only if you have at least the according amount of storage with your iCloud subscription to offload those photos and videos to Apples servers. I don't think there's a way to load them on demand from your OneDrive cloud storage.

In Photos - Settings - iCloud:

Give it some time. It will only work if all the photos and videos have been uploaded to iCloud. On my old Mac the resulting library size shrunk to 10-15GB if I remember correctly. Down from a 125GB that is.

I activated this option from the very beginning.
I have 168 GB photo library (right click on "information" on the photo library in the finder)

Will update here but for the last days nothing really changed here...

If you have sufficient space on your HDD then the files will stay there until the space is needed. And that's a good thing in my book. Especially when the library is fresh and Photos still has a lot of analyzing to do. You could force it by copying some big files onto your Mac and macOS will automatically clear some of the files of your photo-library. That's the only way to force it as far as I know.

I thought it was pretty convenient, when I was on my 128GB MacBook Air not too long ago.

I don't think there is one. The only option is what Apple calls "optimise" whereby it'll keep everything on your local drive until it starts to get full, then it'll offload some.
