Got one this morning
Went to my Apple Store this morning and got the 11" 256GB SSD and 1.8GHz i7.
At first they told me they didn't have anything except the 4 base models. I asked that they check to make 100% sure, and he came out with an Ultimate 11".

Will I notice the difference in the i5 vs i7?
I am going to get 256gb no matter what, but I am either going to the store to get the 256gb i5...or waiting till next week for 256gb i7.
I am going to use this for email, internet, school work, projects, no heavy gaming, light imovie occasionally, and videos online.
What difference will the i7 make compared to the i5?

there's more of a difference with the 11" as it goes from 1.6ghz i5 to 1.8ghz i7
the base 13" has a 1.7ghz i5.
if your wanting a 13" the choices are easier perhaps. (maybe)
I'm really torn as to whether or not to upgrade from the i5 to the i7 on the 13".

My local apple store only has the i5 version, so they say. So, I will either get that today, or have to order online and wait a while.....

For what you describe, there should be very little difference between the i5 and i7. Both will be a significant improvement on the Core 2 Duo in the previous MacBook Air.
I would get the i5. Personally I'll be getting mine tomorrow and the i7 will only be slightly faster than the i5. If you have tons of money, you could go ahead and get it. However, that same money could be better spent on a good case, Applecare, and/or some accessories.
Yeah, it was weird at my store. I called an hour before and they said they had the i7 256 in store. When I went to the store, the greeter is like, we're not selling the new mba yet and they don't have them in stock. But there were people clearly behind him buying the i5 mba and walking out. After informing him that he is mistaken, another apple employee went to the guy and told him, of course we're selling it. Guess he didn't get the memo.
I called the Apple store in Orlando, FL this morning (one of them) and they said that they stocked every single version of the new MBA. I can also bring in my college ID and I'll qualify for education pricing in house.
People should really call and find out before jumping to conclusions or ordering online (if you prefer the in-store method of course).

It seems they are selling the 'Ultimate' (i7 in this case) as standard line up.
At least in major cities.
One thing is for certain, and that is the store employees are no better than Best Buy (actually Best Buy is better), or the old Compusa, or Fry's, or Walmart for that matter.
But they are nice, and fashionable, and have cool little gadgets and name tags and trendy tats, etc.
This makes up for their total lack of training and general clue supply.

Picked up 11" ultimate today...
I placed my order yesterday online, but in my impatience I decided to try my local Apple Store (Valley Fair, Santa Clara.) I was the first one there at 9:20. By 10AM, when the store opened, there were about 30 people in line. I asked for the ultimate configuration, and there were no issues as far as whether they had those; the Apple rep simply went to a Mac and submitted an in-store order. The form he used listed all the configurations they had in stock. (This must be SOP for all the stores now, so all you need to do is ask the employee to look in their system.)
I also got a wireless Epson Wi-Fi printer/copier/scanner free (well, had to pay $100, but easy $100 rebate through Apple that they will file for you on the spot.) I was not offered the "free" printer when I placed my online order.
I was in and out in ten minutes, and I really can't think of a better retail purchase experience than the Apple Store, every single time I buy anything there.
Can't wait to fire up this MBA!

Took me 4 trys, but after calling the apple store again......the sales rep said they do have the 1.8ghz i7 processor.
They kept saying "we have what is already configured on the apple store. (i5 processor)" Finally, I said "well, I called other apple stores, and they said that they have the i7 1.8 processors."
