iPod Storing only on my ipod.

I mostly listen to music on the go and not really ever on my computer.
I plan to free up some space (a lot of space) on my computer and load all my songs onto my ipod classic and delete what I have in my itunes, etc. (I just never use it). I know I can then individually add songs to my ipod my dragging them in. (right?)
So here is my question, most of my music is 320kbps since I'm very picky about the quality.
If I throw it all on my ipod, if one day I want to extract a certain songs or even the whole library onto my computer, will everything still retain the same quality?
I dont want to upload 320, then try to extract a song and it comes out at 128kbps.

The quality will remain correct?

Others are probably more experienced than me in this, but what are you planning to use to extract music from the iPod? As far as I know (could be completely wrong), iTunes doesn't extract from the iPod, it only syncs TO the iPod (unless you purchased the music from iTunes, but with 320kb/s, I'm guessing you didn't). If you're manually grabbing the files from the iPod_Control folder, then you're grabbing the exact file so it will be untouched. If you're using some third party software to go through and extract songs in an organized fashion, then it may depend on that software's settings as to if you want the originals or compressed (although I would imagine the default setting would probably be original).

Also, a few things. One, be sure that your iPod is set to manually manage music before you delete the songs from iTunes, or else it will update your iPod to delete all those songs. Secondly, I don't think you specified, but is the 320kb/s MP3 format? If so, why not use LAME's V0 setting? It's a variable bitrate that sounds identical to 320Kb/s but will save space, with the average bitrate ranging from about 260kb/s to 280kb/s. Just a thought.

And yes, you can drag music to the iPod as long as it's set to enable disk use and manually manage music. You don't even need the song to be in the iTunes library; you can drag it from outside iTunes (folder) directly to the iPod.

Yeah, I'm very big on CD quality. So while I purchase some from itunes as they have improved from 128 to 256, the bulk is from CD's.

I know programs like senuti lets u go from ipod to computer, I just need to know the quality will be there.

Can you explain that very last part again? If I plug into itunes shouldnt it all maintain quality unless specified otherwise?

the quality will be the same but you should know that extracting music from iPod isn't that easy because when you download it to your iPod tracks lose their names and are sorted into different folders (even though they're from the same album or of the same artist) and the names look like "Yhdshj", however all id3 tags are still there.
