Storing photos in iCloud

I need to store some photos in iCloud with my MacBook Pro that I am selling and will reclaim them later.

With iPhoto, I put them into Photo Stream, let them load. And when I go to System preferences - iCloud, it says 5GB available, 5GB free.

Is there a way to confirm that my photos are being stored?

Photo Stream is not a backup service and the photos there expire after 30 days and is limited to 1000 photos.

Get a USB thumb drive if it's a small amount of photos.

Burn a backup onto DVD-Rs.

Use an external hard drive. <- Back up more than just your photos possibly.

Don't try and use a service in a way it's not designed to be used and expect to find your data there when you look for it.

While dropbox and similar services have their uses. I wouldn't have it as the only backup of anything I didn't want to lose. I could see using dropbox plus one of the methods I mentioned above.

Me either but the OP asked for iCloud storage. /shrug

Just sign up for a Flikr account. Syncs with iPhoto and you can just make all the photo's private.
