I’ve always been an iPad fan. I had the first gen, the second gen, and the third gen. After that, I decided to stop upgrading for a bit and just be happy with my device. I had no idea that would turn into 8 years before my next upgrade!

Sure, many people will rant and rave about how bad the iPad 3 is and how they felt short-changed when the 4 came up so quickly. But meh. I’ve never had the big issues people talk about with it, and could care less about the release of the 4 because something new is ALWAYS around the corner. My iPad 3 did wonderfully for me for many years. The only reason it took me so long to upgrade is because the next year I graduated high school and became a broke college kid. Then life happened and now I’m finally in a place I like to be and can afford new toys!

That being said, this upgrade is a welcome one for sure. On my old device, software was out of date, apps were running out of support, and 8 years of use had slowed it down. When apple announced the new 8th gen, I decided it was time. I‘ve had it for about a week now, and I’ve fallen in love all over again (I’m even typing this out on the Smart Keyboard with it). It’s no pro and it’s no air, but I have no complaints about the speed of the A12. It‘s a wonderful media device, its lightweight and easy to type on with the Smart Keyboard, and it’s great to finally be able to download new apps again XD. The only complaint I could possibly have about this work of art is the screen. It would be nice to have the DPI of the mini or the laminate of the mini/air. However, retina is still retina and great, and I can just change my angle if I get a reflection so it’s not a big deal.

Overall a fantastic product and I’m beyond happy that I finally got a new life tool to replace my close-to-decade-old iPad 3. Now it’s buddy (MacBook Air M1) needs to hurry up and arrive! :D

Congrats on the upgrade. That's a really huge jump. The performance difference between iPad 3 and 5 was already night and day. I imagine going from iPad 3 to 8 is even more pronounced. 👍

Thanks! Yes, the performance difference is insane. It feels like jumping from a Windows XP laptop to a Windows 10 laptop. Night and Day hardly describes it lol.

Lol, I was actually thinking more Pentium II/III Window 95/98 to i5/i7 Coffee Lake Windows 10. :p

I did still have a Windows XP computer in operation when I got the iPad 3 and the iPad was slower than the XP desktop (Core 2 Duo E7200 + 4GB RAM + separate short-stroked HDDs for OS, programs and data). :p

Just reading the words Core 2 Duo makes my hip hurt 😂 back when 4GB of RAM sounded like over-kill. I had a 2011 MBP with the i5 Core 2 Duo when I first got my iPad 3 and I felt like it was blazing fast at the timel

That’s awesome! I’m getting ready to upgrade my kids from their iPad mini 3’s to either the new iPad mini or the iPad 8. They will definitely see a boost of productivity and usability I’m sure, but nothing like what you have seen

The mini’s have better resolution, anti-reflective screen, and front-facing camera, but I love the size and form factor of the 10.2”. It’s big enough to enjoy, but not so big that it’s cumbersome or overkill. It also runs the same A12 and feels blazing fast. Plus it’s cheaper! I’d highly recommend the 8th gen iPad.

Same. The 9.7-11" iPads really are my Goldilocks size. If I can only choose one iPad size, that's the range I'd go for.

Does the 8th gen iPad not have a front facing camera?
