So I have an LG soundbar with earc connected to an lg OLED with earc.

If I wire the Apple TV directly into the soundbar I get atmos on everything (Netflix, prime, Disney, Apple).

If I try to use earc for the sound I only get atmos on Disney and Apple but not Netflix or prime. I have it set on passthrough on the tv. Atmos enabled on the Apple TV.

What’s going on? Any tips? I tried searching but cannot find this weird circumstance.

OP, unplug, reboot each end (AppleTV & TV), plug HDMI back in and try again.

If that doesn't work, unplug HDMI, power both ends down, plug HDMI back in, power both ends up and try again.

Have you tried swapping HDMI cables? I had a friend with a similar problem and it was immediately resolved by attaching a "max" HDMI cable: 8K 2.1, etc even though the TV was 4K.

You might also want to describe what you've chosen for audio settings and maybe video settings too. There's some experiments that can be done there to sometimes resolve this kind of problem.

if I remember correctly, there are 2 settings for the LGs to get atmos to work correctly.

not home right now so don't remember, I can update this, but it won't be till after midnight eastern

it might be bitstream instead of pass through, Apple does odd things to the audio stream, they decode it so they can add their menu sounds over it, and then re-send it to the speakers,

in sound, advanced settings. Set the format for the aTV's HDMI port to bitstream, and sound out to auto.

Sounds to me like Netflix and Prime fail to detect an Atoms-capable system when using eARC.

Any updates available for either app?

Figured it out.

I started my PS5 (which had the same cable- surprisingly the highly rated Zeskit Maya 8k- as the appletv) and it was not outputting 4K 120Hz. Confused since the G4 I just got which I am setting everything up on should support it. Switched my PS5 cable with my Xbox and voila got the 4K 120.

Went to Best Buy today and picked up some new cables. And guess what. Now everything works with atmos and plugging directly into the TV as opposed to the soundbar. Crazy that this supposedly good HDMI cable was the issue.

Glad you got it sorted.

I have an LG OLED that maxes out at 4k/60 so I've been very happy with using Amazon Basics 4k 2 metre. Never had any problems with them and they were cheap.
