Dear Community,

I have recently witnessed a couple off instances of "odd behavior" with my 7,1 MacPro and I cannot quite locate the problem. The system itself is stable but needs a reboot every now and then (which never happened with my previous Macs), it's not glitchy in and of itself, but "strange things" (sorry to not be more specific, but I have problems locating the issue) happen. For instance, the OBS virtual camera could not be activated in zoom until I rebooted, Xcode Update never completed until I rebooted, etc.).

The most annoying aspect about these issues is that every now and then, my two 4GB SSDs, which are installed on a Sonnet Fusion SSD Raid (https://www.sonnetstore.com/collections/2019-mac-pro-products/products/fusion-dual-2-5-inch-ssd-raid) in JBOD do not show up. The rebooting process also takes an awful lot of time in these cases. Strangely, the MacPro is also sometimes not able to locate keyboard and trackpad (via BT). Sometimes I have to reboot several times until the SSDs appear again.

I am currently on Big Sur (11.1) to which I upgraded because the Mac occasionally dropped the connection to my BT peripherals unless connected via cable. They always came back, but sometimes it took 30 seconds or longer. This no longer happens, but I also disabled handoff (which seems to be related to these issues)

I already disconnected all USB devices that might cause the issue, with no effect. Any ideas what I should look for?

More info from the Sonnet support came to me by e-mail:

"The Fusion Dual RAID includes an ASMedia ASM3142 USB chip for connectivity to the additional 10Gbps USB-C port.
The Apple Mac Pro 7,1 has compatibility issues with this chip, which can sometimes cause disconnects, freezes, and crashes to macOS.

We do not recommend using this configuration at this time, as it may cause intractable issues.

We are working with Apple to resolve this issue. See our compatibility chart here.

We apologize for the inconvenience."

Hooray, just heard back from Sonnet support (I inquired about the 11.3 beta):

"Yes, we have tested 11.3 developer release and this has resolved the issue."
