My computer is a G4 MDD PowerMac running Tiger 10.4.9. I have two internal hard drives, the original 80 gig and a Seagate Barracuda 160 as a backup drive. I use Drive Genius to backup my stuff.

Yesterday I made some changes in my itunes folder and did some damage to some of the song files. So I went to my backup drive to replace the files.

I had windows open for both drives and I noticed that when I put the itunes folder in the trash from my main drive, the folder from the backup drive was removed also. I tried this with several folders and files. Whatever I deleted from my main drive, was deleated from my backup drive also. Yet when I opened the trash, there was only the one deleted file, not two.

I thought each drive was autonomous. And ideas?

That's me just about stumped then. The only other thing I can think of is that when you have two Finder windows open with one selected as a different drive, it's easy to accidentally move it back to your start-up drive by clicking something in the left column. Then when you delete something in one window, the same would happen in the other. That's the only explanation I can think of off hand. Have you checked to see if the files were actually deleted on the back up drive?

double check your paths in each window by holding down the apple key and clicking on the folder name in the title bar.

maybe you are viewing the same folder on the same drive

Thanks guys.

So I guess I'm not the first idiot to do this. You hit the nail on the head. I figured it out two days ago. Sorry to be so late in posting this. I double clicked on each hard drive icon on the desktop and got two windows. But I clicked on user/music/itunes in each window. Effectively opening two windows for the same files. My bad.:(

A good lesson learned.
