Have a Lacie external hard drive that my Mac running 10.12.6 won't recognise.

My laptop running Mountain Lion sees it all fine and I have erased it and re-formatted it on this so it is blank.

I have another Mac running Mojave that sees it fine.

My chum's computer sees it fine.

But not my main Mac.

Doesn't appear in Disk Utility. or Terminal diskutil list

Doesn't appear logging in as another user

Tried different cable, power supply and all USB ports.

WTF??

Does the troubled Mac see any external drives? If not, perhaps the USB ports are dead.

Yes. Everything works fine except with this one 500GB external Lacie USB drive on this one particular Mac

Is it bus powered or externally powered. If you can, plug it into AC.

If the drive came with an external power supply block, connect that and try again.
Might help, might not.

It -might- be the drive controller (inside the enclosure). Sometimes, there are just "conflicts".
Are there any firmware updates for the drive available?

If nothing else seems to work, perhaps the realistic "solution" is to relegate the drive to Macs on which it is "known to work", and let things go at that...

Yes, it did, and yes I have always connected it with the original supplied power lead and block and plug.

One thing I am going to try is to do a carbon copy clone of a Mac that it does work with, then connect it the Mac it doesn't work with. I won't be able to boot from it as the OS on it will be too old for the newer Mac, but that's not the point. Maybe a Carbon Copy Clone will reset something deep down.

Reading a completely different topic on external hard drives on Amazon and saw someone say their hard drive wasn't showing up on a Mac after it had been re-formatted. Yet it was brand new out of the box. Seagate support said to Disk Utility was set to see only seeing the disk volume and not the complete drive so launch Disk Utility, and use the View button (top left) to Show All Devices and not just the volumes. However, I've launched Disk Utility on OSX 10.12.6 and there is no 'View' button to be found. Even if you attempt to Customize the toolbar there is no view button. Any ideas? This might fix my issue of the non-appearing hard drive

This "button" (to "show all devices") is not in the version of Disk Utility that is supplied with Low Sierra (10.12).

It only appeared in either High Sierra or Mojave (can't remember which one).
