looks like an issue with the pixels and the backlight..if its not caused by an acident or user abuse, that should be fully covered under apple since the product has been out on the market for less then a year. I suggest you make an appointment with the apple store and they might just out right replace the unit as long as its not your fault!
Why are they purple? If they were pixels, wouldn't they be red, green, and blue?
