One of the 2TB drives I run in a FW enclosure with my Mac Mini just stopped working last night. So I popped it in bay 4 of my Mac Pro to see what I could do for it... Upon startup I get... "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"

It seems as dead as a door nail. I can't even format it. Disk Utility reports it having 0 Bytes capacity. See screen shots below.

Any suggestions?

These damn WD Greens are so quiet, I can't even tell if it's spinning up. :( At least it's still under warranty.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Can you attach it to a PC and run the free diagnostic tools available on WD's site?

It should offer up more information than Disk Utility at least.

I've owned a couple WD Green drives; they all seem to fail from overheating and whatnot, especially when used in an external enclosure. Funny thing is my other drives are fine. I avoid them now.

WD Blue and Black drives are stellar however.

Even the WD Green can be recognized spinning up by putting your ear close and having no background noises - if you don't hear _anything_ they are probably indeed not spinning up!
