strange issue with XP games in bootcamp

I have Win XP installed via bootcamp for a few of PC games, I notice that the read-only status keeps resetting itself so its impossible to save progress, when i go back into XP to resume play i get a blue screen of death error - this is particularly annoying in COD games as I keep having to go back to the start.
Any idea what's going wrong and how to solve?
