Strange Macbook Pro behavior (windows user!)

I just recently purchased a Macbook Pro after running DOS and Windows for 12-13 years. So far I love it, but I am noticing some strange behavior, and I am wondering if it's normal.

Basically I never turn off my Macbook because I use it so often at work. I merely close it every night. Most of the time when I open it everything just comes back up the way i left it and I have no problems. Sometimes the macbook is OFF, and I KNOW I had a good charge on it. After it reboots it even said I had more than an hour left on the battery. Anyone else experience this?

Other times I get a grey screen and a loading meter. Everything comes up as if I never did anything. Im guessing this is some kind of hibernation mode if I leave the macbook untouched for a longer periiod of time. Im not concerned about this, but are my assumptions correct?

I always just close my MBP, which puts it into normal sleep mode. What you're seeing is definitely not normal behaviour! Do you see the white light on the front pulsating after you close the notebook?

Also, what week build is your MBP? There have been reports that Apple are recalling some batteries. It sounds like there's some dodgy power connection somewhere.

I would call Apple about this.

Correct. The grey loading screen there is for the deep sleep feature (same thing as hibernation).

Give it 10 seconds or so - the MBP's sleep more deeply, as it were, and take longer to get there. If it never pulses, that's a problem. External monitor attachments can do this - it's in clamshell mode and fully operational at that point.

Something that always causes the deep sleep (the progress bar upon wakening) is the swapping of a battery or otherwise interrupting the battery - is everything in nice and snug?

The light on the front will remain fully on while the computer is still running. This is just to let you know the computer is on and running even though the screen is off. This can happen when your screen switches off after the screensaver period but before the computer goes to sleep and also if you're using the laptop in clamshell mode.

It should start pulsating after about 10 seconds to let you know that it's sleeping. If it's not sleeping (or if the light isn't pulsating anymore when you get back to it) then you have a problem somewhere.
