Back End of Beyond
I've been seeing a strange behavior in Monterey.

Occasionally I'll be doing something (the latest was a save in BBEdit, but it could be anything) and nothing will happen and the menu items for the app will stop responding to clicks. When I click the application icon in the Dock the icon closes and disappears from the dock. The windows for the app will remain open and I can use keyboard commands. If I click on any other app in the Dock that app will close and disappear also. If I attempt to restart the app I get a message saying that the application is not currently open.

Trying to restart the computer will do nothing, so I need to do a hard shutdown and then turn it back on again.

Anyone else seeing this behavior?

Interesting… I’m using Ventura on a 2019 MPB and experienced something very similar. Eventually the screen locked up and after about 5 minutes or so the MBP shut down and restarted on its own. The restart took well over 5 minutes before the login screen. I reviewed the crash logs in the Console app and it appears a kernel panic caused WindowServer to stop responding and a process called watchdog shutdown the system.
