Strange partition organization?

Any clue why my partitions are being listed like this?

File vault is turned on for the Macintosh HD, and my other partition is encrypted, but why does it need to create two entries and put the other one above the Macintosh HD.

When file vault is on for the Macintosh HD and I don't format my other partition to an encrypted one it looks like this.

Since you blanked out the volume name, I'm not sure what I'm looking at

I'm not sure why the partition order matters but its probably due to the device id, the other physical drive is in the first connector of the sata controller or something to that effect.

Each logical volume group is treated as a disk. And OS disk encryption causes each encrypted volume to be part of its own logical volume group.

From what I remember 10.7 may display this setup differently.

It's an HFS+J volume. He neglected to blank out the Name field (grayed out) at upper right of 2nd screen shot.

Like Bear mentioned, that is normal when you have FV2 turned on. I have FV2 on with Mountain Lion and mine looks the same.

If you open Terminal and enter "diskutil cs list" (without the quotes) it will give you a listing of all the volumes and their relationship to one another to help you understand the partition structure with FV2 on.

Okay, I see. I just thought that the first time I did this same procedure it turned out looking like picture #1... I dunno why I remember it like this.

Also the volume name I covered is the same in each location.
