I work in a school district where part of my job is helping teachers manage iOS devices. An elementary teacher brought me an iPad Mini 2 we have with a screen that's completely blank. The device seems to be working (we can initiate SIRI and things like that), but can't see anything.
I was able to back it up to iTunes and use that backup to restore everything to a new device, so she's happy with that for now. I'd like to do what I can to get the iPad working, though.
Here's where it gets weird. I had it in my room for a while & the battery must've died. When I plugged it in, the screen lit up. It's a white iPad, so the whole screen went white with the black apple in the middle. As soon as it finished booting, though, screen went "dark."
iTunes said it needed to be updated, so I tried that thinking it might help. Again, as it rebooted, the screen worked. It showed the apple & a progress bar. Once again, when it finished everything went black.
I turned the lights off in my room, and it's pretty clear that the backlight seems to be working, as the screen glows, but it's entirely black.
Given that the screen "works" during reboots, my guess is that the problem is software. I can't restore it, though since it has Find my iPad turned on--I can't log out because I can't see what I'm doing on the screen.
I'm going to grab a second iPad and see if I can use that to figure out where to tap to "work blind" and log out. Hopefully a full restore fixes things.
If that doesn't do it, is there anything else I can try? Has anyone experienced something like this?
