iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (5th generation) iOS 15.7

Randomly I get what I would call a grey smudge in the middle horizontally of the screen about a half inch down from the top edge. It is only noticeable on a white background screen. Safari, email, etc. It is not always there. I can be creating an email and it appears. I can be in Safari and it disappears. I have tapped all over the screen to try to make it go away. No joy. I have slightly twisted the iPad and it does nothing. I have taken a screen shot and it is not in the image.

Ideas? My service plan runs out April next year. Unit is in a case and has never been dropped.

The oleophobic coating on the display may have worn off you're able to see it only in certain lighting when with the iPad turned off. I had this issue with an ipad I was able to get it replaced at Best Buy (authorized dealer) I would get this checked out.

I understand what you are saying but the spot is in a place that seldom to never gets used. And at this moment the spot is not there. No matter how I tilt the screen.

Just opened iPad and the smudge is there. Top middle of the screen. Just looked again and it is gone.

Smudge always on the same location? If so, it might be an intermittent hardware issue (e.g. when the display is running too hot or something).

Have you found a manual way to trigger the problem? Because it’s best if you can show the defect live when you bring it in to Apple Store for warranty replacement.

If you have AppleCare+, then you can also go for Express Replacement Service. They’ll put a hold for full MSRP on your credit card until they receive your old iPad but you get a guaranteed replacement regardless of whether or not they rule the random smudge a non-issue.

Always in the same spot. Have not figured out how to trigger it nor why it goes away.
