Strange Startup Problem iMac CD

So basically I booted up my iMac 20 inch CD 2ghz and I started in the white screen with a series of clicking noises. Than, the folder with the question mark began flashing all while these clicking noises continued. I shut down the computer manually and turned it back on and now it works fine. I am wondering if anyone has ever experienced anything like this before.

That doesn't sound all that good. Verify your hard drive in Disk Utility.
