Strange Xp wireless trouble.

Ok, so I installed Xp with Boot Camp on my MBP. Most things are working fine and any issues I've had I've been able to resolve with driver updates, etc.

The one remaining problem and probably the biggest is:

I'm connected to a Netopia modem/router. My ISP is Eircom (Ireland).

My wireless works fine, without any trouble in OS X, however, when I boot up to Xp, first off all the internet works fine and all of a sudden I get dropped to usually zero, sometimes limited connectivity. I'm 100% connected to the network but I can't seem to get online. The only way I'm able to fix this is by restarting the router.

Please help.

Okay while in XP, right click on my computer>hardware tab and click on >device manager. Click the + sign on Network Adapters. Find the card that has 802.11 something.

What wireless card is shown?

Goto Properties on this card (right click and select properties), what do you see?

Driver Provider?

Driver Date?

Diver Version?

And then for the record what model of MBP do you own?

I would like to know, too. MBP 2.5 Core 2 Duo, Motorola router supplied by Time Warner.

I need Bootcamp for a work related program that is too graphics intense for Parallels.

In Bootcamp, the network connection drops out whenever I start XP.

My workaround is to go to the wireless icon by the clock, right click, select Repair. It says that if the problem persists, contact my network administrator. I don't need to reset the router every time, just repair the connection. I might have to do this several times a day. Device Manager shows no problem/yellow warnings.

Time Warner doesn't have a clue, Apple doesn't support XP, and I have no idea what is causing it.

The other Windows XP PCs at my home never have this problem. I never have a problem in OSX or on my iPhone.

Removing the wireless HP all-in-one did not affect the problem one way or the other.

The MBP sits in the same room as the router with a very strong signal.

Any suggestions are welcome.

My MBP is version 10.5.6.

The device is Broadcom

Driver Date is 09/20/2007

Driver Version is 4.170.25.12

Also, I've just realised that when I restart in Leopard after Xp, I still have to reset the box until I can get back online.

Humm... 10.5.6 only tells me that you maybe on the current version of OSX.

When I ask about what machine you had, I thought you would be specific so that we could determine if you have the correct drivers.

For example my UMBP has this in Windows XP followed by an OSX capture of the machine model number and wireless NIC.

And of interest the BroadCom XP driver file on my UMBP disk 1 DVD has a 9-12-2008 date (this is the date stamp on the file, not the driver).

This tells me that your machine has the same Broadcom NIC firmware as mine, but that your XP driver is older then the one I am using. Using the "what's new, what's changed, what's different" approach, this is some thing to investigate.

I had pretty much the same problem and the way I fixed it was dropping my network to a WPA from WPA2. I couldn't locate any of the drivers for my wireless card so I found it just to be easier to recreate the network. Haven't had an issue since.
