Hello, all. I just bought a new Macbook, and was wondering if you guys could recommend some games that I can play. First off, here are my specs:

C2D 2.0ghz
2GB RAM
Intel integrated graphics with 144mb VRAM

I'm looking for some recommendations that are similar to Civ III. I know I can't run Civ IV, but I really enjoyed playing Civ III on my iBook G4 (I've actually thought about buying it again and playing it on a faster machine.)

I've heard that Rise of Nations is good, anyone played it? Anyway, let the recommendations fly!

Let me also say that the recommendations don't have to be new games; I was never a PC gamer so if there are great games that are 10 years old I'd still like to hear about them!

There's always FreeCiv. UB builds are now provided. And WarCraft3/Frozen Throne, if you don't mind some real-time strategy.

Edit: FYI, FreeCiv requires X11 to be installed....

Actually, you can play Civ IV on a MacBook, I did it on a first-gen version. Sure, you've got to turn a bunch of options down but it's definitely playable, if slow.

Other than that, there's Command and Conquer Generals and the expansion pack, and if you don't mind booting into Windows, you can buy The First Decade and get all of the CnC games except for Tiberium Wars. There's also a new cool game called Sins of a Solar Empire that you might want to check out.

Default on Leopard ;)

Warcraft 3 and the Frozen Throne expansion are indeed great, if you like RTS. If you're really not bothered by old games, try out Starcraft. It's awesome, too. Warcraft, TFT, Starcraft, and all other Blizzard game don't have a serperate Mac version, so it saves on the money, too. You can just use the regular version, they have a Mac installer on the disk.

I haven't really found any nice turn based strategy games for Mac, except for Civilization of which the Mac versions are buggy and pricey. If you find one, I'd love to hear.
