I installed XBMC in the hopes of streaming my DVD library from my mac through XBMC. Are there any tutorials on how to set this up? How does one go about connecting their ATV2 w/ XBMC to their mac? I know how to use filesharing between mac, but have never done so with the ATV or XBMC so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Turn on Samba filesharing for the directory containing your media files on your mac.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=mac/10.5/en/8201.html

In XBMC go to videos (or music), / add source / Browse / Windows network (smb)

Your shared directory should show up there- usually as 'Workgroup/mycomputername/mysharedfoldername' - select it and press ok.

In the dialog give your source a name - 'my media' or whatever. Press ok.

Choose what kind of videos / media is in the folder in the next dialog - TV / Movies / Music / Music Videos. Stick to the standard 'scrapers' for your choice for now and press ok.

Your source should now be in the files list- select it and you can browse your media in 'files mode'.

For the real good stuff search the wiki for info on Library mode:

Well I though I had it..

I swear I was just able to stream media from my downloads section of my macbook>xbmc..Meaning I was able to play avi's directly on my computer >atv2>xbmc...

Now after I left to the main apple menu and went back into xbmc.

I tried to enter a password/username>ok

and then get a remote share error

could not connect to server...

I just had this working..I feel silly....What could I be doing worng?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I had the same thread at the XBMC forums and no one would help me. I very much appreciate the mac community stepping up to the plate! THANK YOU!!

I managed to get it to work over wifi, but I'm wondering, is it at all possible to get it to work over ethernet as well?

Cannot see my Mac

I've done as you've instructed below, but still cannot see my Mac in the Workgroup on the ATV. I can see our other Windows computer though.

Any ideas?
