Just had an idea we have one apple tv with a large hard drive which contains most things we want and I wondered if it could be made possible to stream to another apple tv (with smaller hard drive) in another room? Then the computer would not need to be left switched on. You could have one in lots of rooms then! What do you think?

You should be able to do AirTunes client/server between a pair of ATV's with the latest 2.3 upgrade. But it's limited to music only.

I do not believe this is correct. While I'm not at home to try, I have 3 Apple TVs and there is no option to specify another ATV as a media source.

Basically, to stream media, you need to have iTunes running on a computer somewhere on your network with access to said media.

The Apple TV is much more of an "dumb" iPod than a Mac.

It certainly is correct, I do it all the time. Go to Settings/AirTunes and select the remote speakers you want to send your sound output to.

I tested this today. It appears to only send Music Sound. Not Movie Sound. I have an Airport Express hooked to a Receiver in another room.

Question, will it stream only to another ATV or Airtunes device? Will it also stream to a PC running itunes?

Amen.

I would love this feature and I have been asking for this for a year. I would love to have one tv upstairs and one downstairs and have them stream to each other. That way I wouldn't have to have the computers they sync to on all the time. Come on Apple, you claim to be going green and you are promoting me keep all my machines on. Help me out:

Well whaddaya know. I never noticed that you could specify another ATV as remote speakers. Though, alas, its audio-only, and you can't control one ATV from another (i.e., change tracks, etc).
