Stream from panasonic camcorder into VLC

I am trying to put the video feed on my HC-VX980M into VLC (or a similar program) so I can display the feed on an external display connected to my MacBook (I have a 2017 MacBook Pro and have numerous USB-C adaptors).

Does anyone have any ideas on how this could work?
The camera has a wifi function and I can access a video feed on iOS devices but they don't officially support other methods.

Have you tried Quicktime's Movie Recording facility? It's in the File Menu. It works with my miniDV camcorder and the iSight camera, and you don't have to record to get the picture on the screen.
