A quick question regarding the new Home Share feature in itunes.

I have updated my iPad to the 4.3 software and I can now stream vinyl rips from my macbook to the iPad which won't transfer via syncing. The albums are all 24bit/96khz so I'm wondering if anyone knows what they are being compressed to using home share.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks

Cheers for the info. Is there any way to get itunes to downscale to 16 bit in order for me to load onto an iPod? I don't want to move down to 128 kbps but something inbetween.

I don't really understand your question...

You'll need to re-encode your content, then you can choose whatever bitrate you want if you choose to go lossy, otherwise there's always Apple Lossless. You can use Max for this.

Sorry my question was unclear. Currently I would have to have two copies of any vinyl recordings. One in 24bit/96khz and the other in a format that will play on iPads/iPhone/iPod.

With streaming I only need one copy and would like to keep it like that and have music on my mobile device.

I don't think this is possible unless anyone has found a way (apart from only just having CD quality format).

Oh, I see. If iTunes is downsampling for the iPad (most powerful iDevice), I highly doubt it will play on an iPod. Keeping a dual-library really is the only way to go.

In your situation, I'd hire an engineer to professionally downsample to 48khz/24bit. It's fast and easy for most of them. If you made these LP transfers yourself though, you already have the software to do this. Make a new session and set it at 48k/24bit. Then import your 96k files. Export as WAV or AIFF 48k/24....

Then import to iTunes and convert to lossless, or high rate AAC...but at the 48k custom iTunes setting.

No worries

My first-gen :apple:TV streams Apple Lossless 24-bit 96kHz files from iTunes through the digital port to my Harmon Kardon amplifier just fine. The HK would recognize them as 96kHz too (but didn't display the number of bits it was receiving). It sounds GREAT!
