Hello, can anybody who owns the 2nd generation Apple TV confirm, whether it's possible to stream video from an iOS device like an iPad2 or iPhone4 to the Apple TV2? As an example I can easily stream a hd movie in mkv format to the iPhone4 using plex on both ends and it plays perfect.

As there's an airplay feature in the latest Plex iOS app, which supports video as far as I understand, it's supposed to be able to stream to the Apple TV 2nd gen? Am I wrong? If this works, I'm buying an apple tv very soon!

Can anyone confirm this?

you're probably better off jailbreaking, and running plex directly on the appletv.
you're probably also better off asking about this on the plex forums

thing is that I'm not a fan of jailbreaking, and also you don't get the full features of plex when you do that on the apple tv (so far). And buying the appletv while knowing that what I will mainly use it for is jailbreak features doesn't make me feel good.

If anyone can test a streaming mkv using airplay and confirm if it works, I would appreciate that. :)

Airplay to Apple TV via PLex

yes this works!

A great alternative to jail breaking especially with mkv, avi files etc and on the iOS 5 on ATV2 and 3..

Works no problem for me... Just need to navigate media through your mobile device with Plex App running opposed to the ATV interface.. no biggie though... less frustrating than trying to jailbreak IMO....

Yes, it works as you expected, quality is a bit downgrade, specially when you are trying 1080p files.

You are as previews poster said, better off Jailbreaking the ATV2 and using plex there. Much much better, what part of Plex are you using that is not supported yet on the ATV2?

Does Plex for iOS support video_ts folders with full dvd menus? I have some movies in video_ts that I occasionally want to watch as the original dvd, while most other movies have been converted for iTunes. That is the only reason that I keep a WD TV around at all, and if Plex for iOS supports this feature then that sounds like a good solution to me.

I've found the Airplay feature works very well. Only issue that I have with it is that if you multitask, opening a program that has any sort of audio output will stop playback and you'll be listening to that program's content on the TV. I don't think that's an issue with Plex though, rather an OS restriction. One Plex issue in this regard though is that when you switch back, it will display an error on your TV screen and trying to start playing again won't retain your previously last-played position.
