streaming large files

I have been ripping all of my DVD's in preparation to buying an TV, however I havn't been using the standard TV presets on handbrake (and roxio crunch), but am making the files considerably larger so as to maintain the high DVD quality. Will these larger files, sometimes 4GB, be able to stream to the apple TV? I realise i can store them on the TV itself, but in time I will have ripped far more than will fit on the TV's harddrive.
Does TV stream the video ahead of where you're up to? say you press play, does it then wait say 10 seconds or a couple of minutes before to cache the file and then play seamlessly, or will it just keep stopping the film to catch up?

I don't have any files over 4 GB, but my 2 GB movies stream just fine. Regardless of the file size, though, make sure you're encoding in a format AppleTV can play:

* H.264 and protected H.264: Up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
* MPEG-4: Up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 720 by 432 pixels at 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

On my wireless-g network, movies stream for 2-3 seconds before they start. AppleTV appears to load 30 seconds ahead, so you can jump forward 30 seconds before it needs to rebuffer again. I know some people have had streaming problems, but my movies really play after a few seconds and they never need to rebuffer again (unless I fast-forward too far). Overall it's a seamless experience - it takes about as long to rebuffer as it takes my DVD player to spin up.

I've heard of a 4Gb limit whether you are streaming or syncing. I've never encountered it myself. I consider my handbrake settings to produce high quality (I can't tell the difference from the DVD). The longest was LoTR at 3.6Gb. I encode at 2500Kbps, turbo two pass with the standard handbrake AppleTV settings except with cabac=0

Ok, so I just got my AppleTV, I also bought VisualHub to convert my h.264 encoded MKV movie files to AppleTV compatible MP4 files. My sole purpose of purchasing the AppleTV is to stream music/movies/photos (not sync any of it, strictly streaming it all). So I convert my first MKV to AppleTV compatible MP4 with h.264 encoding and to my dismay, it sits there buffering the movie on the AppleTV and never starts playing it. The file size is around 4gig +/- a few hundred meg. Will this size file, and encoding type NOT stream to the AppleTV? If not, then this thing is no use to me. A good deal of my movie files are in MKV h.264 encoded format, and I made the leap in purchasing VisualHub to take the time and convert them, no AppleTV hacking required, I thought.

Anyone able to stream these converted type of files? Granted, I did use the "Go Nuts" setting, and left h.264 encoding checked in VisualHub for "Itunes > AppleTV" output. Is this correct?

Try syncing one file to the tv to see if it plays. If it does, then it's your wireless setup assuming you have it in wireless.
