I tried it and it works great. Don't think it'll be around long, or free for long.

filmon.com

"This may not last long as I’m sure the networks and Apple aren’t too happy about it. In fact, the legal beagles are already at work to make this stop. That said, if you want to watch some live TV on your iPad or iPhone you can do so courtesy of FilmOn.com as of this moment. Go to that website in Safari on your iOS device and pull up the site. You can then have your pick of the major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS) being broadcast out of Los Angeles in addition to some other channels like the BBC. Be warned there are even some porn channels available. You make a selection and within a few seconds you’re watching the over the air broadcast on your device.

I tried this out last night using a MiFi card and so I can’t attest to the stream completely. I had some stutters and stops, but that might have been because of the pipe I was using. I don’t know how this works on WiFi. Notice also that there is a big “swipe for full screen” instruction on the screen. Actually you do a pinch out gesture to get to full screen, not a swipe.

You can also do this on your laptop or desktop but it requires a download to work there. I’m guessing the FilmOn folks want to eventually create a service they can charge for, but then again the networks will have a say in that.

There’s another service similar to FlimOn called ivi.tv and it is using broadcast feeds out of Seattle. It is a paid service at $4.99 a month."

Warning to parents: There are a couple of XXX channels, so proceed accordingly.

I having been trying this out while watching college football to see if there were more games available to on my iPad. It works good but it has crashed my iPad two times already. It completely shuts down and restarts automatically. Kinda a weird thing but I figured out it only did that while watching CBS after I tried some other channels. Any thoughts as to why this might happen?

Nice find. Thanks.

I work on Sundays and I'm always looking for an alternative to Veetle.com to watch football. Veetle doesn't always have the game I want so this may be my answer!

Same thing here. I just stopped using it.

Its got problems, but is great for free.
And definitely proof of concept.
Hope we see more developers doing this sort of thing.
Potential on the iPad is unlimited.

Does anyone know why some times I get the English channels and sometimes American Channels?

if you're using Safari on your Mac, if you go to the Develop menu* and set the User Agent to Mobile Safari - iPad then the videos play as if you're on your iPad...

*in Preferences/Advanced turn on the setting to Show Develop in the menu bar

Just download it it looks better and full screen actually works correctly.

Thanks for showing this I'm in a new apartment and I won't have TV for a while so this will ease the pain ;)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

This works great on iPhone thanks!

No crashes for me so far on home Wifi. I'm watching the Colts/Bengals game on CBS LA which is not on in the Philly market. This is great for a Colts fan! Quality wise filmon is far better than what I get from my Hava (Slingbox clone.) Man I hope this lasts.

I'm doing the same thing with the Bears/Vikings game (I'm in the Indy TV market, but they would rather put "Pearl Harbor" on the Fox station instead of probably the next-desired football game)...fun to see the LA commercials...

Not with iOS4.2

I installed the GM version b of iOS4.2 and it doesn't work at all. It works fine on the Touch with4.2 and iPhone with 4.2, both running the gold master release candidate.

As an LA resident, welcome to the countless Matress King commercials, my god they're annoying!
