For some reason I think there is some old feature of OS X that I'm not aware of simply because I haven't needed it until now.

What's the easiest way to send music from my MacBook to my Mac Mini? My MacBook has all my music and the Mac Mini Server is connected to my flatscreen and home audio system. I don't want to hook up my audio system with AirPort Express (because it's already hooked up to my other stuff) and I do have an ATV2 but I'm not using it because I bought my Mac Mini Server yesterday.

Is there some built in OS X function? Maybe some new Lion feature i.e. AirDrop? I know Airdrop is for file sharing but maybe there's something similar?

Would be nice if there was something like Airplay but for Mac to Mac.

If I turn on BOTH my MacBook iTunes HomeSharing and Mac Mini iTunes Home Sharing will that let me do it?

Home Sharing? So turn it on on both Macs using the same AppleID on both, and then (say) in iTunes on your laptop you should see the iTunes library of your desktop appear.

Ah in my Mac Mini's iTunes I simply entered my ID as you said and it automatically saw my MacBook's library. Nice and simple.

What I don't like is how it reduces your authorized computer count again simply because I bought another machine. It doesn't show the same playlists from my MacBook, only a huge long list of songs. I was hoping there was some non-iTunes way of streaming music from Mac to Mac.

AH EDIT: I did this in iTunes. You're saying you can do this without iTunes too? Also I found the playlists by clicking the arrow however, if you drag the left side-bar to the right more so you can read the long playlist names there is no scroll-bar to go down the playlists. This is for both the shared library and home library. You have to decrease the size of the artwork box to read the lower playlist names. Looks like a bug.

Using Bonjour sharing instead of Home Sharing will not require use of an authorization. You will be able to see/play all media and playlists on the mini just like Home Sharing but without the P2P sharing. I use it for my wife's and son's computers as they don't require anything more than read-only access to the central iTunes library.

I don't see any Bonjour settings at all on my Macs. Really tired. I'll take another looksy tomorrow.

Oh, it's under iTunes>Preferences>Sharing tab, then select "share my library" or something along those lines. I don't think it actually uses the Bonjour term, but that's the protocol it uses.

That's where I went. I guess I had it all good but I went an extra step and filled out my AppleID? Who knows.
