I would like to stream music from an iMac to a speaker located in a toddler's room. The speaker does not need to be very loud or have amazing dynamic range, etc.

I think I could do this by connecting any powered speaker to an Airport Express, though I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for doing it via bluetooth or with a speaker with built in WiFi or some other way? I'm not sure how doing it via Airport Express will work because my network is an AC network, and as far as I understand it the Airport Express is an N device and will slow down my network if put on the network?

Thanks for any suggestions.

The two rooms are separated by a long hallways, so perhaps bluetooth streaming will not work.

The "N" Airport Express will not affect the speed of AC devices unless they're connected through it. So, you could set it up as described in the section titled "Connecting to an existing Wi-Fi network, exclusively for iTunes music" on this page.

The link did not work. For clarification, Are you saying that I can add an Airport Express N to my AC network and it will not slow it down? I would use it only to connect speakers and possibly a printer.

Thanks.

Link works for me but here it is unadorned: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202192

The page is a description of different ways the AE can be configured. The one I mentioned doesn't say anything about a printer.

The N device will not slow down the AC network but if you use the AE to extend the wifi anything that connects through the AE will be limited to N speed.
