Streaming Videos to TV?

I have a folder full of 720p and 1080p movies that I would like to play on my TV.. what would be the best way to set this up?

The most elegant way would be via AirPlay from iTunes to an Apple TV.

Depending on the current formats of your movies you might have to convert them first to m4v files before you can add them to iTunes. This can be done with Handbrake (free). I do this all the time and it's just great.

This does sound like a good option.. how is the quality of the 720p and 1080p movies?

I have an Apple TV 2 that can only do 720p and I can see no difference in quality between streaming i. e. Netflix in 720p and streaming with Handbrake converted movies. Handbrake has presets for Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3; I therefore assume that it can also produce 1080p movie files.

Heres what you do

1- buy Apple TV
2- get a program called iflicks, run your movies through the program it will add the metadata for you & it will add the movies to iTunes , as long as your movies are mp4 or mkv you won't have to do any converting , so each movie will take a few seconds to a minute when you run them through iflicks

3- now you can watch your movies on the Apple TV



My Apple TV is wired Ethernet so I dot have any buffer problems streaming my 1080p movies



Oh and iTunes has to be running on your computer in order to stream to your Apple TV , but you can put your computer to sleep & streaming will work
