Hi-i know you can attach an external monitor and close the lid but is there a way to set iTunes to stream to anything (airtunes, tv, etc) and close the screen? (Using a Rev B 1.86/SSD)
if you have an external mouse and keyboard plugged is as soon as your computer goes in clamshellmode (i think its called) everything shoudl works just as if you were usingit with the lid opened..

As for radiating heat, obviously and increase in surface area allows the machine to give off more heat. But, isnt the amount of heat coming from arears rather than the exhaust quite minimal?

That's your call, depends on your machine. I would err on the side of caution in this regard and I've never seen the need to close my lid when I'm using it.
meh, i ve always used my MB in clamshell mode even while ripping dvd and doing some light video editing, it gets pretty hot, but it never reaches over 95, unles syou put it on a bed witha pillow on top blocking the air intake you ll be fine imo
Have you connected to an external monitor? If so, do you just end up mirroring? This seems like a natural time to close the lid (Though this was not the idea of my OP. I agree with you-there is not a need to close in streaming situations, just a personal wish to)
Apple's specs say the Air does extended desktop or mirroring, which means clamshell reduces your available screen real estate. My only concern with closing the lid is the eventual damage that heat will do to the screen.
